Good Thoughts, Good Actions Foundation

What is the GTGA Foundation?

How do I get involved?
Students have already been very generous and creative in ways to help out their fellow martial artists at the dojo - some have made hot packs and sold them as Christmas gifts, others bought snacks to be sold in the dojo lobby for the foundation, some donated their used gear and uniforms for the Gear Closet, and some simply gave cash.

If you have any used gear or uniforms that you would like to donate to students in need, you can bring them by the office today.  If you have a referral for someone who is in need and could benefit from the foundation, or have the motivation and creativity to spearhead a fundraising activity, contact Kristina any time.

The most important way you can be involved with Good Thoughts Good Actions at the dojo, is simply to respect and watch out for each other, whether you're in the dojo or out in the community - the dojo family takes care of each other!

Introduction of the GTGA Foundation on Sensei Stuart Day, January 8, 2011:

"Through the past 5 years, we’ve all seen the students of this school make achievements they never thought possible. The fundamentals taught here - the warrior’s way, its principals, what karate teaches us about, both on the mats and off, and how good thoughts lead to good actions - transcend beyond the dojo doors.

The Bushido Service Club is only one example of those fundamentals. The Service Club reaches out to the community, searching for those in need, without prejudice, without judgment, and makes an impact. The Service club teaches us about ourselves, to recognize the importance of being a servant to those who already are stretched to their maximum, some with very little hope, and finding a way to lighten their load, even if it means making our own sacrifices.

January 8th is a special day. Today’s events were created in remembrance of a man who lived his life as a shining example of how good thought can result in good action. To that end, we are proud to introduce the Good Thought Good Action Foundation - a nonprofit association created with the sole intent of giving back, seeking opportunities to display compassion, hoping to instill courage and hope for those who need just that extra ‘push’ to change their life.

Our hope is that through the GTGA Foundation, we can not only give back to the community through the Bushido Service Club, but also stimulate growth and support of students and family through scholarships for competition, gear and outside training. Competition is a healthy part of being a martial artist and requires a great deal of courage on the part of the competitor. It also can require a financial commitment many students and families may not be able to make.

The Good Thought Good Action Foundation has established an official board, and will soon be fully functional as a nonprofit organization. We’ll post official announcements for scholarships, activities, and donation opportunities (all tax deductable) and honor students and the community with a formal financial commitment from the Foundation throughout the year.

Let us please thank you in advance for any commitment you make to this incredible foundation. Please join us is welcoming this awesome new addition to Sortor Bushido Kai Karate!"
